WhatsApp link generator

Build a wa.me link with a prefilled message, copy it, test it and download the QR code. Everything happens in your browser.

Include the area code. If you paste the number with +1, we will fix it.

0/1000 characters

Nothing is sent to a server: the link and the QR code are generated in your browser.

What a wa.me link is

wa.me is WhatsApp's official short link for opening a chat with a number without saving it to your contacts. The format is simple: https://wa.me/ followed by the full number in international format, digits only. A US number looks like this: https://wa.me/12015550123. Leave out the +, brackets, dashes and any leading zero.

If you want the person to find a ready-made text, add ?text= and the URL-encoded message (spaces become %20, accented letters become sequences such as %C3%A9). The generator above handles the encoding for you, so emojis, accents and line breaks arrive intact.

Where to use the link and the QR code

  • Websites and landing pages: on the "Contact us" button or a floating WhatsApp icon.
  • Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn bios: a short link that opens the chat straight away on mobile.
  • Ads and emails: give each campaign its own message, such as "I saw your Black Friday email", so you know where each contact came from.
  • Print: menus, packaging, business cards, shop windows and counters. This is where the QR code helps: people point the camera and land in the chat.
  • Email signatures and invoices: a support channel that is always one tap away.

Practical tip: write one message per channel. When the customer reaches out, the first sentence already tells you the source, and your sales team does not have to ask.

The limits of the link (what it does not do)

A wa.me link does not send a message by itself. It only opens WhatsApp with the number and text filled in; the person still has to tap "send". It cannot send bulk messages, schedule messages or reply automatically, and the customer can edit or delete the text before sending.

A few more things to keep in mind:

  • The number must have an active WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business account. If it does not, the app says the number is not on WhatsApp.
  • Very long messages make the QR code dense and hard to scan. Keep the text short.
  • People who open the link on a computer without WhatsApp installed see an intermediate page and can continue on WhatsApp Web.
  • The link is public: anyone who has it can message the number. Think twice before sharing a personal number.

When the link is no longer enough

The link solves how the conversation starts. The bottleneck comes later, when dozens of messages arrive every day and someone has to reply quickly, qualify the lead and route it. That is where the official WhatsApp Business API comes in: you can reply through webhooks, connect your CRM, send confirmations and reminders with approved templates and keep the history in your own system. The same number can keep receiving chats through the wa.me link; what changes is who answers on the other side.

Frequently asked questions

Does a wa.me link send the message automatically?

No. The link only opens the chat with the number and the text filled in. The person sends it by tapping the send button and can edit the text first.

Do I need to include the country code?

Yes. The link requires the full number in international format: country code, area code and number, digits only, with no +, spaces or leading zero. The generator builds it for you.

Does the QR code expire or have a scan limit?

No. The QR code only stores the link text, so it keeps working as long as the number has an active WhatsApp account. If you change the number or the message, generate a new QR code.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. The number and the message are processed only in your browser to build the link and the QR code. Nothing is sent to Vectalk servers.

To automate replies to the chats this link brings in, use the official WhatsApp API: create a Vectalk account.
